iPhone 3G apps: Where to begin?

The iPhone 3G has already sold over a million units, and the apps downloads number around 10 million.

With over 500 applications--some of them cool, some of them awful--how do you know which you'd want, without digging through all of them? Luckily there are a bunch of reviews, written by publications with disparate tastes. Pick your poison:
