Home Automation: Control your Tivo Remotely with Telnet

Apparently, Tivo has an open port which can be accessed via Telnet. This means by using the old school network protocol, you can configure your Tivo by taking advantage of its built in home automation system. On way is with the iPhone’s terminal app.
